Pompeii by Maisie (and Milla)

Unfortunately Milla and mum couldn't come to Pompeii because Milla was really sick and vomiting 🤒 and mum had to stay at home with her. She is still very sick (24 hours of vomiting) and mum thinks it's food poisoning. Hope she gets better soon. 😔😔😔 So Harvey, dad and I were the only ones who went.

After a shaky start (waking up LATE at 6:30 and having to rush and panic to get to get to the train on time) we soon arrived at Rome Termani and boarded a high speed train (very similar to the Eurostar) to Naples.

We arrived after 70 minutes at Naples. We then caught ANOTHER train to Pompeii which took around 40 minutes. There were buskers onboard who were singing and playing the drums and tambourine.

After three long train rides, we arrived at Pompeii and bought our tickets 🎫. We walked down the 'Main Street' and took some photos while the sun was still out! ☀️☀️

Not long after though it began to pour with rain ( the first time it's rained on our trip ) and seeing as most of the ruins were roof-less, there was limited shelter.

Harvey and I shared one umbrella ☂ whilst dad toughed it out in the rain. We wandered around (sometimes without knowing where we were going) but managed to see many houses and shops, pots and vases 🍶 and some bodies in plaster casts.

We saw a couple of spectacular mosaic floors, and parts of painted murals and even some drawing scratched into the walls.

It is amazing that all of this had been rediscovered after being buried in ash! 😯
Whilst we were inside the cafeteria having something to eat (because dad forgot the food) 🍴 when it started to hail!

Later in we wandered a little more. We visited a mini colosseum but didn't stay long because of the rain.
(Harvey and I out in the middle)
We could also see Vesuvius for most of the day. ⛰🌋

Although we had bad weather all day, it was really interesting and I was really glad that i went and didn't sleep in. Hopefully I can return to Pompeii in the future (on a sunny day perhaps)!

  1. Pity about the weather Maisie, but you didn't let it dampen your day too much by the sounds of it. X Nannie
